Carpal Tunnel Treatment

Dr. Craig Chappell became the first physician in Utah to uses the Sonex UltraGuideCTR™ to perform carpal tunnel release.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) occurs when the median nerve leading from the forearm to the palm of the hand becomes compressed. CTS affects some 12 million Americans annually, resulting in more than 500,000 surgeries.

CTR procedures can be performed in a doctor’s office under ultrasound guidance in less than one hour.

Traditional open and endoscopic carpal tunnel release (CTR) procedures are generally effective, but typically require outpatient surgery in a surgical center or hospital, a possible lengthy recovery period, and sometimes painful scarring. Many of our patients can’t afford to spend weeks or months away from work or their favorite activities so we went to work to find a treatment that could decrease pain without traditional surgery.

Thanks to an instrument created by physicians from the Mayo Clinic, and Dr. Chappell’s expertise and advanced training in sonography (ultrasound), this procedure is available in Utah.

CTR procedures using the UltraGuideCTR™ can be performed in a doctor’s office under ultrasound guidance in less than one hour and require only an adhesive bandage to close the wound. The UltraGuideCTR™ is designed to protect sensitive nerves, tendons and blood vessels as the transverse carpal ligament is bisected during the procedure. Ultrasound-Guided Carpal Tunnel Release is covered by most insurance plans.
